Idle Dice

In 1962, Idle Dice was born in Oklahoma sired by the thoroughbred stallion Hayhook. Idle Dice initially failed on the track as a racehorse, but went on to have a successful career as a hunter ridden by Bernie Traurig. Afterwards, Harry Gill would became Idle Dice`s new owner. While he was ridden by several notable equestrians including Terry Rudd, Michael Hunter, Steve Stephens, and Buddy Brown, it was with Rodney Jenkins in the saddle he achieved his greatest accomplishments.

Idle Dice`s showjumping career proved extremely lucrative, earning over $400,000. This figure would be over triple that amount in today`s financial climate. His wins included 31 grand prix victories, the American Gold Cup three times, the American Invitational, and a number of Grand prix classes in a number of different states including New York, Florida, Upperville, Ox Ridge, Detroit, Cleveland, and two President`s Cup at the Washington International Horse Show. He competed at the World Championships in Europe in 1974 and was the 1977 Grandprix Horse of the Year.

Idle Dice`s outstanding career continued even in his final season, where he took victories in the Grand Prix at Lake Placid and Southampton, New York. At the age of 21, he received recognition as a "champion jumper" by the FEI and won three Grand Prix. Formally retired at the American Gold Cup in 1986, he lived out the rest of his days on Harry Gill`s Pennsylvania farm.

Idle Dice remains one of the most remarkable horses in showjumping history.
